Hardcore Armor Management (HAM)

Hardcore Armor Management (HAM)

A comprehensive, risk‑reward armor system for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Master your plate armor, manage the burdens, and earn powerful bonuses.

Description
Hardcore Armor Management transforms KCD2’s plate armor from a simple stat‑stick into a living, skill‑based system. Every piece of heavy armor now requires time to put on or take off, and doing so while running, drunk, or hungover can literally trip you up. But as you repeatedly don and doff your gear, Henry becomes proficient—toggle times shorten, trip chances plummet, and you unlock the ability to perform delicate tasks even in full gauntlets.
The mod also introduces a sleep‑armor penalty, a chest/door locker, and mastery buffs that alter your movement speed, exhaustion rate, and boot durability based on how skilled you are with each armor piece.

How It Works (Player's View)
[]You buy or find a shiny new plate helmet, arm armor, chest plate, leg armor, and gauntlets. You put them all on in the inventory screen.[/]
[]The moment you close the inventory, every single piece is stripped off. Armor doesn't just magically appear on Henry—he has to strap it on.[/]
[]You press the hotkey for a piece (say, ] for chest). Audio plays (buckles, straps, metal clinks), and your screen briefly blurs. This takes a few seconds.[/]
[]If you're sprinting while strapping on heavy plate legs, there's a good chance you'll trip and ragdoll. The faster you move, the riskier it gets. Being drunk or hungover makes it even worse.[/]
[]After you've done this many times for a particular slot, Henry gets proficient. Toggle times shorten, the blur fades faster, and the chance of tripping drops. You'll see a notification when you reach Novice, Adept, Expert, or Master tier for that piece.[/]
[]Plate gauntlets block delicate actions until you've mastered them. At first, you can't eat, wash, pick herbs, brew potions, or lockpick while wearing gauntlets. Each action unlocks at a certain tier (eating at Novice, washing at Adept, herbs/alchemy at Expert, lockpicking at Master).[/]
[]Sleeping in armor reduces how much exhaustion you recover. The penalty per piece shrinks as your mastery rises, vanishing completely at Master rank.[/]
[]Press L to lock the nearest chest or door. It's not perfect (sphere‑scan limitations) but works for roleplaying.[/]
[]Passive buffs change your movement speed, exhaustion rate, and boot durability based on your mastery. Low tiers penalize you; high tiers reward you.[/]
Essentially, the mod turns putting on heavy armor into a deliberate, risky, skill‑based ritual that evolves as Henry's proficiency grows.

Installation instructions
[]Download the HAM file.[/]
[]Extract into your KCD2 Mods folder so the structure looks correct.[/]

Keybinds
The following hotkeys are active after the mod is installed:
[]= – Toggle Helmet (Head armor)[/]
[][ – Toggle Arm armor (Arms)[/]
[]] – Toggle Chest armor (Chest)                                                 [/]
[]' – Toggle Leg armor (Legs)[/]
[]\ – Toggle Gloves (Hands)[/]
[]L – Lock the nearest chest/door (Chest Locker, WIP)[/]
(If you squint, those keys sort of form a little guy. :) Kinda.)

The ragdoll keybind (used when you trip) is provided by the Ragdoll Hotkey mod.

Configuration
All settings are in the file armortoggle.lua inside the .pak.
Open the .pak with 7‑Zip, extract the .lua, edit the values, save, and repack the archive (make sure the .pak stays uncompressed / Store mode).

Resetting Skill Progress
Toggle counts are stored globally, not per‑save. If you start a new playthrough and want to reset all mastery tiers to zero, open the console (~) and type:
ham_reset_skills
This will wipe all toggle counts so your new Henry starts fresh. You only need to do this once when beginning a new game.

Main features
Toggle‑Based Armor System
[]Dedicated hotkeys for Head, Arms, Chest, Legs, Hands.[/]
[]Each toggle takes several seconds and is accompanied by immersive audio and a brief cinematic blur.[/]
[]Cancellable – press the same key again to abort.[/]
[]Smart Auto‑Strip – on game load, the mod automatically re‑applies your saved armor state (no manual hotkey presses needed).[/]

Skill Mastery Tiers
Every time you complete a toggle, that armor slot gains experience. Mastery is split into four ranks:
[]Novice (25%) – Slightly faster toggling, minor trip reduction.[/]
[]Adept (50%) – Moderate speed & trip bonuses.[/]
[]Expert (75%) – Significant bonuses.[/]
[]Master (100%) – Max toggle speed, max trip reduction, and special perks.[/]
The required toggles for Master are configurable (default: 100). All bonuses scale smoothly.

Risk & Reward
[]Speed‑based Tripping – running while toggling increases your chance to stumble and ragdoll. The faster you go, the riskier it gets.[/]
[]Drunk / Hangover Penalties – being drunk or hungover drastically increases trip chances and toggle durations.[/]
[]Slot‑specific Trip Multipliers – heavy legs are much more dangerous to toggle while moving than light gloves.[/]

Gauntlet Restrictions (with mastery unlocks)
Wearing plate gauntlets blocks certain actions until you’ve mastered them:
[]Eating – unlocks at Novice.[/]
[]Washing – unlocks at Adept.[/]
[]Herbs / Alchemy – unlocks at Expert.[/]
[]Lockpicking – unlocks at Master.[/]

🛏️ Sleep Armor Penalty
Sleeping in plate armor reduces your exhaustion recovery. The penalty per piece decreases as your mastery grows, reaching zero at Master rank.

Chest & Door Locker (WIP)
Press L to lock the nearest lockable object (chest or door). Useful for role‑playing and securing your stash.

Mastery Buffs (Integrated)
Passive, tier‑based stat changes are built into the mod—no extra downloads needed:
[]Movement Speed – penalized at low tiers, becomes a bonus at Master.[/]
[]Exhaustion Speed – tire faster in untrained armor, slower when mastered.[/]
[]Boot Durability (legs only) – plate legs wear out boots; mastery reduces the damage.[/]

Requirements
[]KCDUtils – Provides UI notifications, audio triggers, math helpers, and the database interface. Required.[/]
[]LuaDB – Standalone or bundled persistent storage mod. Handles saving/loading of toggle counts and armor state. Required.[/]
[]Ragdoll Hotkey – Enables the on‑demand ragdoll effect used by HAM’s tripping mechanic. Also provides the ragdoll keybind that HAM forwards. Required.[/]

Known Issues & Compatibility
[]Mod Conflicts: The glove‑restriction system overrides vanilla interaction triggers (washing, eating, alchemy, etc.). Mods that alter the same triggers may conflict.[/]
[]Chest Locker: Currently uses a sphere‑scan; may occasionally target an object slightly to your side rather than straight ahead. This is an engine limitation.[/]
