This mod adds a new way to use blood strategically during combat. While standing in a blood surface, the wearer can teleport across the battlefield to another blood surface once per Short Rest (unlimited version also available). The wearer also deals an additional 1d4 necrotic damage when standing in blood (no cooldown).

It is particularly well suited to Dark Urge playthroughs or blood-themed characters, but it can be used by anyone who wants a new movement option.

✔️ Patch 8 compatible, Hotfix #36
✔️ No requirements
✔️ Safe to install on an existing save file
✔️ Controller compatible
Update 1.0.1: Changed the casting visual effect to match the blood theme and added a version of the ring that doesn't have the short rest cooldown. Gifs below show the old version

Update 1.0.2: Fixed a bug in which taking a Long Rest that had a camp scene in it would cause the ring to break

Unlike the teleport, this is a passive buff without a cooldown. It is active if you are in a puddle of an enemy's blood or your own.

Damage system explained further:
The bonus follows BG3’s existing damage-instance behaviour, similar to effects such as the Callous Glow Ring.
[]Ordinary weapon attacks will receive the bonus once.[/]
[]Multi-projectile attacks usually apply the bonus once for each projectile. This is part of the game’s normal damage system rather than custom stacking added by this mod, so feel free to abuse people with Eldtrich Blast.[/]
[]Some spells containing separate damage instances or damage types will trigger the bonus more than once. For example, a spell such as Ice Storm contains separate Cold and Bludgeoning damage components. The game will evaluate these components separately and apply eligible damage bonuses to each of them[/]
[]TLDR: The 1d4 gets added to each beam of Eldtrich Blast [/]

3) Purple Blood Detection VFX
A purple visual effect appears around the wearer’s feet whenever the game recognises that they are standing in blood.
The purple glow is meant to be a clear visual indicator that the teleport and necrotic damage bonus are currently active. I recommend keeping this effect enabled, particularly when playing with a controller or using WASD movement and camera mods, as these setups make the exact edges of surfaces less obvious than in a point & click setup.

The mod adds a custom ring. It doesn't replace any vanilla equipment or abilities. It should therefore be compatible with most other mods.
✅ Other blood-themed spells, subclasses, or abilities should work with the ring as long as they use the standard "SurfaceBlood" tag for blood surface generation

⚠️ Misty Step Mods: My mod inherits some presentation data from this spell. Mods that substantially alter Misty Step (including Ritual Misty Step, Enhanced Misty Step, and large spell-overhaul mods that alter misty step) may affect my mod's behaviour. There is less chance of this happening if you load my mod BEFORE these overhaul mods

⚠️ VFX-Removing Mods: Mods that remove or suppress persistent visual effects may also remove the purple blood-detection VFX form this mod. If you use a broad VFX-removal mod, try placing my mod later in your load order so that its custom effect is retained.
Example ideal load order for the BG3 Mod Manager:
5. VFX-Remover Mod
6. My Mod
7. Misty Step Mods
[line]

The mod uses BG3’s vanilla surface-detection system. If the cursor identifies the destination as Blood, you're good to go.

If the effect does not activate:
[]Move slightly farther into the puddle (like 0.1 meters) or onto a different part of it . Standing right on the edge can get a bit wonky, as can irregular blood puddle shapes occasionally [/]
[]Check whether the ground tooltip identifies the area as Blood before you walk there[/]

Note: There is the occasional decorative red stain that looks like blood but is not coded as such. These won't activate the ring. They are relatively rare. When in doubt, hover your mouse over it and see if "Blood" comes up.

"Is that blood? No, nevermind" (It is a decorative decal)
[line]

Note: The ring does not currently apply the necrotic bonus or teleport ability while the wearer is in Wild Shape. This is kind of a mess to code, but I may implement it in the future

The ring isn't in my camp chest
First, make sure that you definitely have the mod enabled. It is easy to forget to do this. Sometimes the mod manager will say it is active, but you need to go into the game's built-in mod manager and tick the "enable" box.

If it is enabled and it doesn't spawn in your camp chest, this is some sort of native glitch or a conflict with a different mod. You can get around this by manually spawning the ring using a cheat mod such as Easy Cheat. The UUID is cf530abd-33c0-469c-971b-c362220e77ef
I am in a blood puddle and it isn't working
Move slightly farther into the puddle, even just 0.1 meters. The game may not consider the very edge of a surface to be Blood. It can also sometimes struggle when the blood puddle is a wonky shape. The purple VFX will appear once the surface has been detected.

If you go further into the puddle and it doesn't detect it, the blood may be a decorative decal rather than an interactive surface. Check whether the cursor identifies the ground as Blood. Decorative blood cannot activate the ring.

If all else fails, taking the ring off and re-equipping it can fix it
The teleport destination is not valid
Make sure the selected location is an actual blood surface and that there is enough room for the character to stand. Corpses lying in blood are supported and should not prevent you from choosing a valid destination around them. Teleporting near to a living creature requires space, whereas corpses do not
I am using a controller and cannot see the exact surface boundary
Use the purple VFX as your indicator. If the VFX is active, the game currently recognises the character as standing in blood.
It is working, but the purple effect does not appear
Check whether another mod is removing or overriding visual effects. Try moving my mod to later in your load order. If all else fails, taking the ring off and then re-equipping should fix it
