Em and Harry's Wild Deer

Em and Harry's Wild Deer

Adds wild deer as Farm Animals and a Woodland Feeder machine which can be used to offer a home to deer (and other animals) in your barn (or coop).

Want to add Deer as a farm animal but don't want them too feel to domesticated and lose their sense of wildness?
Introducing Em and Harry's Wild Deer and Woodland Feeder.

On a clear day in the Secret Woods, some time in your first fall or beyond, you chance upon a wild deer. The creature won't let you get too close, but it tolerates your presence more than you might expect and it makes you wonder: could these creatures ever make a home on your farm? With the Woodland Feeder, they can!

After receiving the recipe for the Woodland Feeder, you'll be able to place the machine in your Barn and stock it with treats favored by local wildlife; the Wild Deer of the valley are partial to strawberries and blueberries. Give it some time, and a wild deer just may make their home in your barn. Once they've settled, you can use the feeder to attract more deer or just let the deer breed on their own.

Wild Deer come in both Stags and Doe; Stags drop Antlers on the last days of each season, which fetch a pretty penny and can be crafted into a couple decorations. Both deer will occasionally drop Deer Bundles, clumps of gunk found while they wander. Deer Bundles can be run through the Wood Chipper to reveal the goods inside; most commonly, this includes resources like Fiber, Moss, and Hardwood, but can include some rarer goods as well. The higher the quality of the bundle, the better the goods.

Antlers can be used to obtain the Hardwood Stag, a couple decorative furniture items. You can configure whether the Hardwood Stag is Craftable (you'll receive the crafting recipe to make them yourself) or available in the Carpenter's Shop (you can trade Antlers to Robin for the furniture).

Stags will grow out their antlers in the second half of every season. Doe do not grow antlers, though antlers can occasionally be found in the Deer Bundles doe drop, so antlers can be obtained regardless of whether your deer are stags or doe. Deer forage for their own food and will not consume hay or grass.

Stags come in three colors: dark brown, light brown, and red. Doe come in two colors: light brown and fawn pattern. Baby deer of both kinds all have the same fawn patterns and develop their adult colors when they mature.

Deer Aren't The Only Animals You Can Attract

This mod contains compatibility with Em's Hedgehogs and River Wildlife! The Woodland Feeder can be placed in either the Barn or the Coop and can be used to attract Hedgehogs, Osprey, Beavers, and Otters to their corresponding building.

If you're a mod maker, your animals can be added to the Woodland Feeder too! Check the articles tab of this mod for more details.

Mod Compatibilities

Extra Animal Configs: Not strictly speaking necessary, but EAC is required for certain extra features. With EAC, the Deer can go outside on rainy days and in winter, allowing them to feel more wild, and the Doe can birth both male and female offspring (while the Stag cannot get pregnant).
Stardew Expanded: An alternate version of a cutscene in the Secret Woods is fully compatible with SVE's redesigned Secret Woods map.
PIF: The Woodland Feeder attracts wild animals to the Barn or Coop (or potentially custom animal house) that the animal would normally reside in. As such, if the animal building is built in a PIF room the Woodland Feeder will still work to call the animal to it.
Mizu's Deer and Reindeer: The Deer and Deer items of this mod have mod-unique labels so they won't interfere with any of the similar features of Mizu's deer. If you'd like to have both mods, you totally can. Both Mizu's Deer and Reindeer can be called via the Woodland Feeder with Cranberries and Cranberry Candy, respectively; they can only be called once you've received the letters that also make them purchasable at Marnie's.

Translate Me!
